Gotcha Day
Today was a very full day. Our luggage was packed and picked up from our room at just after 5a.m. We had breakfast at 6:00a.m. and left the hotel for the airport at 6:45a.m. Our flight from Beijing was a little delayed. It was a bumpy ride to Guangzhou, but we made it. We landed at 12:00 noon. We had to wait for all 24 of us to get our luggage and make it to the bus. Our guide, Elsie, did a good job of keeping up with all of us. Our local guide is Simon. He will be joining us for the next 2 weeks.
We got checked in to the hotel and unpacked. We also had to get together our paperwork, and gifts for the orphanage director and a nanny. While I was doing that, Steve went with a group of parents to the market to buy Jinding formula for our babies. This is the brand that they are used to.
As soon as they got back, it was time to load up and go to the Civil Affairs office to receive our babies. We got them at about 4p.m. It was such an incredible experience. Even now I can hardly grasp what has transpired today.
Our little Gabriella didn't even cry. She started to a couple of times when she was looking at other babies crying, but I would quickly walk away from them and she would stop. She has been laughing and playing with us. We are pretty amazed by this. She is smaller than we expected and her face isn't quite as round as it was in her pictures. She has two teeth on the bottom and one just about to come through on the top. Her head has obviously been shaved again not too long ago. No hair bows for a little while.
We just got the girls to sleep and have a busy day again tomorrow. We will do more paperwork and visit with the orphanage director and/or caretaker.
